October is shaping up to be one of the most exciting months we’ve had in a long while — full of workshops, parties, and creative fun. Around here, there’s truly never a dull moment!
Let’s start at the beginning. We kicked off the month with the Telly Bean “Halloween Party” MKAL Cowl. It’s not too late to join — we still have a few kits left for those who want to jump in. Then came our Florality Cowl KAL Workshop, where we explored the art of intarsia knitting. That class was such a success that we’re already planning another session.
Crocheters had their turn too — our Crochet-Along featured the fabulous (and slightly challenging) Elphaba Witch Hat, not for the faint of heart! Alongside it, we made some adorable crocheted fall leaf coasters — perfect for your pumpkin spice latte season.

Here’s what’s coming up next in October:
🧶 Pumpkin KAL – Wednesday, October 8 | 4:00–7:00 P.M. Join us for a cozy evening of pumpkin knitting! We can make up kits for you, or help you pick your own colors and yarns. We’ll also offer guidance on needle sizes and color combinations so your pumpkin turns out picture-perfect.
👜 Tunisian Crochet Boutique Bag Workshop – Saturday, October 11 | 2:30–5:00 P.M. We’re thrilled to welcome Krista Pape, expert Tunisian crochet teacher, back to Yarn Store Boutique! She’s designed a pattern exclusively for YSB — the Boutique Bag. The workshop includes handles, feet, and the pattern.
🐑 Open Needle Felting – Monday, October 20 | 10:00 A.M.–4:30 P.M. Bring any item you’d like to felt — we’ll provide all the tools, fibers, and guidance. This is a relaxed open workshop where you can explore needle felting at your own pace.
Annual Halloween Party & Craft Fair Kickoff
Now for the big one — our Annual Halloween Party and Craft Fair Kickoff, happening October 24–25!
🎃 Friday, October 24 | 6:00–8:00 P.M. We’ll start the night with a Parade of Witch and Wizard Hats! There may even be multiple winners — the creativity is always spellbinding. Expect door prizes, hauntingly good treats, and plenty of laughter.
🛍 Saturday, October 25 | 10:00 A.M.–5:30 P.M.
Our Craft Fair Vendors will be set up all day, showcasing handmade gifts and treasures — perfect for early holiday shopping.

- Brian Bently – Hosting two tie-dye workshops and selling his vibrant, custom-made creations.
- Pat Crosland – Crochets the most exquisite earrings you’ve ever seen. Tiny, colorful, and beautifully crafted. Even if you’re skeptical about crochet earrings, trust us — these will win you over.
- Joseph Haynes – Offering his locally produced raw honey straight from his own bee hives (and yes, it’s delicious).
- Marla Morris – Selling stitch markers and notions that knitters and crocheters will absolutely love.
- Ute Barbes – Selling hand-knit socks! Yes, real pairs — not just the single-sock syndrome so many of us know too well.
This is only our second Craft Fair Vending Event — our first one, two years ago, was such a success that we couldn’t wait to do it again. We wish we had room for everyone, but we’re thrilled to showcase these incredible makers from our very own community.
