Everything is a Blur

Everything is a Blur

Everything Is a Blur—and Not Just My Eyes!

Everything is a blur lately—and I don’t mean just my eyesight, although I’ll get into that in a bit. I think it may be time to visit the eye doctor and get some new glasses!

Besides my dry eyes (yes, I do use my drops), my eyes now seem to lose focus after I’ve been working on the computer for a while. That’s a new symptom. I’ll keep you posted, but unfortunately, because my life is also a blur, I probably won’t make it to the eye doctor until October. By then, I may need Dianne to drive me there.

So, why is my life such a blur?

I know, yes, I bring most of this on myself. Many of us do, including my friend Dianne. Yes, you, Dianne Alvarez. I’m calling you out!

Now, Dianne does know how to rest, and I’m slowly trying to learn this mysterious technique. In fact, I’ve decided Dianne is my official rest coach. So far, I may be her most challenging student.

Lynne Brownell is just as bad as I am. We keep ourselves busy with work, but the problem is, our work is fun too! Then, when we finish working, we’re determined to find even more fun things to do…hmmm…instead of resting.

Apparently, when you enjoy your work, it becomes very difficult to tell where work ends and fun begins. And when you’re a squirrel like me, “resting” usually means sitting down long enough to think of three more projects.

I’ve been home from vacation for only a short time, and I hit the ground running. Somehow, I forgot that I booked myself for every weekend in September. Now, mind you, Sunday is supposed to be my rest day, unless the store is open. I’m not required to work on those Sundays, but hey, I can’t miss the fun! ;-)

Every other week, I get to spend time with my grandchildren, so I take off work to play with them. This past Monday, we went to Topgolf and ate at one of my favorite hamburger places, Freddy’s.

But before the fun could begin, I imposed a little child labor on my grandchildren, Frances and Nathan, who are 10 and 12.

Frances loves helping me. Nathan, on the other hand, loves his screen time. But Nana did not cave in; which, as all grandparents know, can be very easy to do.

Nathan worked slowly, with an impish grin on his face, but he never complained. Did I mention that he took several breaks by throwing himself dramatically onto the floor? Such difficult working conditions! I’m sure he’ll be contacting his union representative any day now.

What were they working on? Well, one of my September weekends is the “Tori Artis Planners Party Summit.”  (P.S. I think there is still some spaces available - most fun event I've been to in a long time - very energizing). Not only did I sponsor a table—which means 10 nicely packaged table gifts and a centerpiece, I also became an event sponsor.

That means 160 gifts.

Nicely packaged.

For 160 attendees.

Apparently, I heard the word “sponsor” and completely forgot how to count.

That’s what Frances and Nathan were helping me prepare. But, of course, it doesn’t stop there. Oh no! I also promised Tara that I would make 12 coffee cups with a cheetah design for the table she sponsored. Then I made 11 pencil holders with a cat design for my table, and we also have to bring gifts for our tablemates.

Phew!

But I’m not complaining, because this is all fun. The work is fun, the planning is fun, the creating is fun; and apparently, being slightly overwhelmed is also part of my personal entertainment package.

And the deadline for the 160 sponsor gifts was August 1.

Need I say more?

Before that big event, Dianne and I are heading to DFW Fiber Fest this weekend. I’m very excited, but I’m also beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. I booked myself for four workshops, but now I’m wondering if I might need a little downtime.

Perhaps my rest coach will have to step in; although Dianne will be attending Fiber Fest with me, so I’m beginning to question her qualifications.

We were supposed to stay through Saturday night, but now we’re coming home Saturday because I have a church meeting on Sunday.

Then, the following weekend, I’ve been invited to visit my granddaughter’s college campus for Rush Weekend. I’ll leave September 5 and return September 7. Birmingham, Alabama. Here I come!

Come up for air, Doris.

Next is the Party Planner Summit, September 10–13. Tara arrives on the 10th, and I can’t wait to visit with her. She’ll return home on the 14th, just in time for me to turn my attention to our next big event: Mid-Autumn Lantern Night at RedFish Grill!

We have so much fun planned for this special evening. Rolita will surprise us with her amazing food and moon pies, and maybe a lantern or two will appear on your tables as well. You can choose to do a project, or not. Everyone is welcome!

And guess what? We aren’t even through September yet. We’re only halfway!

There’s much more to come, but at this point, I’m afraid it may all remain a blur. And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. The work is fun, the projects are fun, and the people who join us make every bit of the chaos worthwhile.

So, if your life isn’t quite chaotic enough, come join ours at YSB! Stop by for a class, an event, a little Sit & Stitch, or simply to see what new squirrel we’re chasing. Lot's of our customers are enjoying our Dan Doh KAL. There’s always room for one more friend—and possibly one more project you didn’t know you needed.

I really had better get those glasses soon. I need to be able to see the calendar clearly enough to so I don’t overbook ;-) all the fun.

P.S. I forgot to mention I do get my knitting in between during TopGolf and while being a passenger in the car! Have Knitting will Travel - and I forgot to mention, I'm making 11 Dumpling bags for my sponsored table (I know I only have 10 at the table - but I have to give one to Tara, and 10, maybe 20 coasters if I have time for my tablemates.
