Ice Cream, Duckies, and a Few New Squirrels
I’m just back from our retreat in Brenham, Texas, and oh my, what fun we had!
Let’s begin with the food, because there was plenty of it. We ate ice cream, bread pudding (thank you, Rolita!), lemon pound cake (thank you, Jocelyn!), and homemade granola (thank you, Kimberley!). Liz brought several bottles of wine, and so many others brought snacks to share. Thank you, everyone. We were very well fed. ;-)
We managed to do some crafting between all that eating, too. We had two workshops and a technique class on joining yarn. Dianne taught us to needle felt pumpkins, and I taught basic watercolors. Everyone seemed to enjoy trying something a little different.

We also welcomed Sandy Barnes from Ito Yarns by Zoom for an informative session. We were her guinea pigs for her very first Zoom presentation to a group, and she did wonderfully! Perhaps we could schedule another Zoom with her at the store…just a thought. We had quite a fashion show, too.
And then there was bingo. And little duckies hidden for everyone to find. Kimberley was our winner! Those duckies are so darn cute that I may now be looking for them everywhere.
Our vendors donated so many wonderful goodies for the swag bags. We are grateful for their generosity and for everyone who helped make the retreat special.
While we were there, we booked Shana Cohen for knitting workshops in April. I can’t wait! I’ve also been working hard to find another location for a future retreat. The steps at Ant Street Inn are difficult for friends with mobility issues, and unloading at least 20 boxes—possibly more—is quite a job for Dianne and me. Julie, of course, is still young. ;-)
We’ll announce our next retreat in a couple of weeks. Space will be limited, as usual, so keep an eye out.
Until then, I must go knit a pumpkin and a ghost or two. Actually, I need to knit 13. How did that happen? Oh, and least but not last, we still have a few Halloween Advent Kits left - they are a wonderful mystery and surprise. P.S. Tamara could not wait to open hers while on the retreat - but she did not spoil the surprise for anyone that was waiting for the official start date - no spoilers please. ;-)
P.S. Those dang squirrel's keep on messing with my head, as I'm always ready to move on to my next project! I forgot to mention that Julie did two workshops with customers on the knitting machine and they came out beautifully - we still have to make the lining, but when everything goes well - you can knit a beautiful evening bag on the machine in 1 hour, then the side seams by hand and bind off in an hour!!
