More Than Just Yarn

More Than Just Yarn

By now, most of you have probably figured out one thing about me...

I don't have just one hobby.

Actually, I'm not sure I even know how to have just one hobby!

I simply love creating. If it's a craft, chances are I want to learn it, try it, and then, if I think it's fun, I want to share it with all of you.

That's probably one of the reasons Yarn Store Boutique has become more than just a yarn store.

Over the years we've added all kinds of creative adventures. Some of them have absolutely nothing to do with knitting or crochet, and I love that!

We've explored needle felting, and now we're getting ready to offer wet felting (I'm really excited about this one!). Becky is going to teach beautiful watercolor techniques. We’ll make handmade books through bookbinding classes with Tara. We are going to decorate oversized clips, Melany offered a class in decorating a teacup for Christmas.

Every time I discover something new, I become the official "guinea pig."

I practice.

I make mistakes.

I figure out what works; and what definitely doesn't!

Then, if I think it's something our YSB family would enjoy, we turn it into a workshop.

The best part?

Almost every class is designed for beginners.

No experience.

No pressure.

Just come ready to have fun.

I love watching someone walk in saying, "I've never done anything like this before," and leave proudly carrying home something they made with their own hands.

That's a wonderful feeling.

I also love that these workshops give us a chance to step away from our regular knitting and crochet projects for a little while. Sometimes it's refreshing to use different materials, different tools, and different parts of our creativity.

And don't worry...

The knitting isn't going anywhere!

We're simply adding more ways to create.

Speaking of creating...

My sweet husband recently built me my very own pottery studio in our garage. (Now there's a man who knows exactly how my brain works!) So don't be surprised if pottery projects begin making their way into Yarn Store Boutique in the near future.

I have a feeling clay and yarn are going to become good friends.

We're al, not knitted, not crocheted; but created with yarn, balloons, glue, and just a little bit of creative chaos.

Will it be messy? Probably.

Will we laugh? Absolutely.

Will someone end up with glue on their fingers? Without a doubt.

But that's part of the fun.

I've learned that creativity doesn't always fit inside one category. Sometimes it's yarn. Sometimes it's wool. Sometimes it's paper, paint, clay, or even a balloon covered in glue.

The medium may change, but the reason we gather never does.

We come together to learn something new.

To encourage each other.

To laugh at our mistakes.

To celebrate our successes.

And to remind ourselves that we're never too old to try a new craft.

So if you've ever thought, "I'm not crafty enough," let me assure you...

Neither was I... until I tried.

Who knows?

Your next favorite hobby may be waiting for you at Yarn Store Boutique.

Just don't blame me if your collection of hobbies starts looking a little like mine!

After all,

I don't collect yarn.

I don't collect crafts.

I collect opportunities to create and friends to create with.

Welcome to our Family.

Kiss, Kiss
