Pull Up Your Big-Girl Panties, Doris!
It is amazing how quickly life can place a brand-new skill in front of you, whether you asked for it or not.
With much disappointment, my digital marketing expert, Mylan, needs to take a leave of absence for medical reasons. I have worked with her off and on for probably four years now, and she has been the person behind the scenes who posts my blogs, adds the product links, arranges the pictures, and handles many of those mysterious digital details that somehow make everything look pretty on our website.
Mylan is now 20 weeks pregnant, and her doctor has told her that she needs to eliminate as much stress as possible. Of course, her health and the health of her baby must come first. We will miss her tremendously, but I completely understand why she needs to step away.
And so…the saga begins.
I am now being thrown into the world of posting blogs on the website, linking products, arranging pictures, and trying to understand Google and Meta ads. Hmmm…all very foreign to me.
I don’t dare add another thing to Julie’s already-full plate. Lucky for me, Mylan called me on Saturday, July 18, with the news and graciously agreed to post my final two July blogs; if I could get them completed by Sunday night.
Guess what? Done! I did it!
That bought me two weeks to plunder through the website, figure out how everything works, and hopefully make my future blogs look good. I am sure there will be a lot of clicking, experimenting, talking to myself, and possibly asking the computer why it refuses to do what I clearly told it to do. ;-)
Technology does not come naturally to me. After a year, I have kind of figured out how to pay the Texas Workforce Commission and handle the payroll taxes for Julie. I still wouldn’t call myself an expert, but if I put my mind to something, I can usually figure it out; even when the subject feels completely foreign to me.
Now, I need to learn another new skill out of necessity. I suppose that is part of living, growing, and surviving. Sometimes we choose our next adventure, and sometimes it chooses us.
As Dianne would say, “Doris, pull up your big-girl panties and tackle this new adventure with confidence!”
Hmmm…easier said than done, but I am going to try.
I must admit, though, I would much rather tackle a new hobby or craft. Give me wet felting, pottery, bookbinding, knitting, or crochet any day! But for now, my newest project will be learning how to make a blog look pretty on a website.
So, if a picture ends up sideways or a product link sends you somewhere unexpected, please be patient with me. I am learning, and who knows? Perhaps this reluctant little technology adventure will become another skill I can add to my ever-growing collection.
After all, I don’t collect hobbies anymore…I apparently collect job descriptions too. ;-)
Fingers crossed with hopeful thoughts that this adventure will end up being fun. Sending you all much love and hugs ahead of time for patience while I continue to learn.
