Trapped (Happily) for 48 Hours

Trapped (Happily) for 48 Hours

Here I sit - thinking, pondering, and feeling a little giddy with excitement.
Trapped in the house for 48 hours.

Yes, trapped… but in the very best way.

My brain is racing, my hands are gathering supplies, and there’s this wonderful sense of possibility in the air. All this time to do exactly what I want. Staying in my jammies? Absolutely an option.

There might be family coming over for potato soup. That’s still undecided. I haven’t heard from anyone yet, but I’m making the soup anyway—just in case we have some last-minute takers. Soup can simmer while I craft. That feels like the right kind of multitasking.

And what crafts, you ask?

Well… hmmmm.

They’re all laid out on the table. Every one of them calling my name. Writing this blog is technically a distraction; but, you all know I love writing these. It’s part of the fun.

So here we are: my plan for the next 48 hours. Or maybe I should call them goals. Very ambitious goals. Definitely more than any sane person could accomplish, even without sleeping, but when has that ever stopped me?

Somewhere in all of this, I’m also trying to squeeze in a nice long soak in the bathtub. I managed to pull my back out at the knitting retreat in Brenham (ugh), so a little self-care is officially on the list.

First up: finishing the new vest I just started with ArtYarns. Katie came into the store wearing hers, and the moment I saw it, I knew I had to knit that vest. No hesitation. I’m working on the back panel right now… well, I was until I took a break to start this blog. Those dang squirrels are at it again.

I’m also hoping to do some journaling. I need to catch up from my New York trip with Tara, the knitting retreat, and my project journal—since I’ve actually completed a few things (imagine that!). I’d also love to finish my new Strathcona for 2026. I like to start a new one every year, and this one’s been on the needles since August. Maybe, just maybe, this is the weekend it gets finished.

There’s an embroidery project that needs completing for an upcoming workshop, and oh! I can’t forget my newest toy: a new tool for my knitting machine that moves the needles so I can do Intarsia. The kit is by Ito, and the scarf it creates is just beautiful. I’m itching to try it.

By writing all of this down, I realize I’m making myself accountable to you all. So now… I’d better get to work on this ambitious little plan for the next 48 hours.

I’ll keep you posted as I go—with pictures, of course.
But not the bubble bath. Hee hee.

Update:
Progress has been made! I’m almost through with the vest. The family did come over—we ate, played cards, and laughed, which was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. And naturally, I added something new to the list: painting on a tote bag that’s new to the store. Because why not?

This is now day two and it also happens to be my 52nd wedding anniversary, so we’ll just see how far I get today. Life has a way of shifting the plan, doesn’t it? I also managed to place a few orders for the store, because even on cozy, crafty weekends… YSB is always somewhere in the mix.

Well… here we are on day four. And while I did use my time well, it’s always a good reminder that things tend to take a bit longer than we imagine when we’re making those hopeful, ambitious lists.

I started the embroidery tea towel, finished the vest (that one feels really good), and got most of my journaling caught up—which honestly is a win in itself. I also managed to start two new projects. One of them was for the Assigned Pooling Workshop—definitely not on my original list, but it found its way in anyway. You all know how that happens. And I couldn’t resist starting the new Sweater Club sweater for March (Else). That one has been quietly calling my name.

So, all in all, I aim big… and then I settle into what I was actually able to accomplish. And I’ve learned that’s okay. Especially when there are interruptions—many of them unexpected, and many of them actually quite lovely. Life has a way of weaving itself right into our plans, doesn’t it?

And really, when I look back at these last few days, I wouldn’t change a thing. May the joy of knitting or crocheting always be with you.
