Here we are again - Doris and Julie, chattering on and on about all the fun things we get to do here at Yarn Store Boutique. And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way. We love crafting so much, and we know so many of you, our knitters and crocheters feel that same joy right along with us.
Before I jump into what’s coming up this next month, I don’t want to forget something that matters deeply to me. This is for all of our customers; those who shop online, those who come into the store regularly, and even the folks who wander in while traveling through town or visiting Houston for work. No matter how or why you find us, each and every one of you makes this community what it is: welcoming, kind, and full of heart.
From the day I opened Yarn Store Boutique, I’ve had one very clear vision. I wanted it to feel like one of those Hallmark movies I love so much… or like Cheers, where everybody knows your name. And the truth is—that only happens because of you. You show up, you share stories, you cheer each other on, and you make this space feel like home. I’m endlessly grateful for that.
Now… what’s new at YSB?
Alice in the finished starter sweater
Our Sweater Club has been such a joy—and a huge success! We had over 25 people sign up for our very first sweater, the Starter Sweater, and many of you are just about finished. We knit it top-down, in the round, on US 10 needles, with no seaming (yes please!). Watching everyone gain confidence and proudly try on their sweaters has been one of my favorite moments in the shop.
Next up is our second sweater, Else. This one introduces a few more unique construction techniques, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a favorite. We’re using a DK cotton yarn on US 6 needles, though we do have other yarn options available in the store if you want to make it your own. I’ll be knitting mine in Treasure Goddess Bamboo Linen Lux, holding two strands together to get the correct gauge; and yes, I can’t believe I’m saying this either… but gauge really does matter. (I know, I know.) It truly makes all the difference in getting that just-right fit.
With how much love the Sweater Club has received, Julie and I realized something important—we needed something just as special for our crochet customers. And so… here it is! We’re launching a Crochet Sweater Club, and I am absolutely smitten with our first project.
We’re starting with the Chunky Mesh Overshirt, using Loopy Mango Big Cotton. This is a wonderful beginner-friendly project, and it works up quickly, always a bonus. I’m using a 10 mm crochet hook, and I’m loving how satisfying this piece is to watch grow. When you purchase the kit, you’ll receive the pattern, yarn, a darning needle, an oversized clip marker, and access to two workshops, available both live in person and via Zoom for our online friends.
And yes… we already have another crochet garment lined up after this one. Our hope, with both knitting and crochet, is that each project helps you learn something new, building skills and confidence along the way, just like we do in the Sweater Club.
So here we are, once again dreaming, planning, stitching, and learning together. Thank you for being part of this beautiful, creative, welcoming community. We truly couldn’t do this without you.
