My Journey at Yarn Store Boutique: From Wednesday Nights to My Happy Place

In August of 2022, I was told I needed to get a job — our family might soon need to depend on me. So I did what anyone would do: I applied at my favorite places. One was in Klein ISD, and the other was Yarn Store Boutique.

When I asked Doris if she was hiring, she smiled and said, “Actually, I only need someone who can work Wednesday night.”

Knowing I needed something steady, I instantly replied, “I’ll take it!”

What started as one Wednesday night quickly grew into something so much more. Before long, Doris asked if I would help with social media and marketing. Then in December of 2024, she asked if I would come on full-time.

At the time, I was finishing my bachelor’s degree in Communications, working two jobs, and learning how to navigate life after divorce. The journey felt short, even though the days were long. Through it all, I had my YSB family to keep me afloat and Doris by my side every step of the way.

Earning my degree was a huge milestone, but what makes it even sweeter is that I now get to use it every single day — pouring my heart and soul into this little slice of heaven I call my “Happy Place.”

Growing in the Yarn World

My growth in the yarn world has been such a personal joy — and now I get to share it professionally.

Helping a customer with a knitting machine

A year ago, I never would have imagined confidently pulling out the knitting machine to help a customer make a wrap just because she wanted to try. I’m still not an expert, but I’ve grown enough to use it with or without Doris nearby — and that feels like progress.

I’ll never forget my “firsts,” either.

Heart to Heart Cowl Kit

The first kit I created was the Heart to Heart Cowl Kit, designed by my dear friend Alina Appasova. I still wear my cowl with pride. While we don’t currently have that kit available, we do carry supplies for many of her beautiful designs — and helping customers bring those patterns to life is one of my favorite things.

Creating Community Moments

I’ll also never forget sitting with Doris and saying, “Let’s have our own vendor event!”

That’s how Summer Fling was born.

When the event finally arrived, the joy I felt seeing our customers enjoy something we worked so hard to create was a gift to me, too. There’s nothing better than watching this community gather, laugh, shop, and create together.

And the fun isn’t over — we’ll be hosting our Winter Fling next weekend, February 27 & 28! Events like these remind me why I love what I do.

Another favorite of mine? Our “Help Me Knit This” lessons. I love sitting with someone, getting to know them, and watching their skills grow stitch by stitch. Seeing that spark of confidence and joy when something finally clicks — that’s the magic.

Looking back, what started as a simple Wednesday night job became so much more. It became growth. It became healing. It became community.

It became home. 💛
